About
Founded in 1962, UVI is a public, co-ed, land-grant HBCU in the United States Virgin Islands.
The University of the Virgin Islands (UVI) is thrilled to announce the launch of its Job Readiness Summer Program, aimed at empowering graduating high school seniors with essential skills for entering the workforce. Developed and administered by UVI's University Bound program, in collaboration with Cruzan Rum Distillery and the V.I. Department of Labor, this initiative represents a significant step towards preparing the next generation of professionals in the St. Croix and St. Thomas/St. John Districts.
The Job Readiness Summer Program kicks off with an intensive one-week boot camp, running from June 17 to June 23, 2024. During this immersive experience, participating students will engage in a comprehensive curriculum focused on job readiness, employability, and soft skills development. Additionally, they will receive invaluable instruction in economic literacy, equipping them with the knowledge and confidence to navigate the modern workforce.
Following the boot camp, students will embark on a paid work experience, providing them with hands-on exposure to various industries and professional environments. This practical component of the program aims to reinforce the skills learned during the boot camp while fostering real-world application and career exploration.
"The Job Readiness Summer Program represents a unique opportunity for graduating high school seniors to gain the skills and experience necessary to thrive in today's competitive job market," said Rosalia Rhymer Rohan, Director of the University Bound Program. "We are grateful for the support of Cruzan Rum Distillery and the V.I. Department of Labor in making this program possible and look forward to seeing the positive impact it will have on our students and our community."
Space in the program is limited, and interested students are encouraged to submit their applications by Friday, May 17, 2024. For more information and to apply, please contact Rosalia Rhymer Rohan at (340) 693-1133 on St. Thomas or Michelle Albany-Crispin at (340) 692-4182 on St. Croix.
